Nystaform HC Ointment is a light-yellow ointment for use on the skin.

 

Nystaform HC Ointment contains Nystatin, Chlorhexidine and Hydrocortisone. Nystatin is an antifungal medication that fights infections caused by fungus. Chlorhexidine has activity against a range of bacteria. Hydrocortisone is a corticosteroid that helps reduce redness, swelling and itching.

 

Nystaform HC Ointment is used to treat skin infections caused by fungi and/or bacteria such as ringworm, athlete’s foot, and infected nappy rash.

Nystaform HC Ointment is a Prescription Only Medicine. Prescription-only medicines must be prescribed by a qualified health professional. This may be a GP, hospital doctor or pharmacist for example.

Active ingredients

Nystatin 100,000 I.U./g, chlorhexidine hydrochloride 1.0% w/w, hydrocortisone 1.0% w/w. Always read the label

  • white soft paraffin

Documentation

Like all medicines, Nystatin and Chlorhexidine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Some patients may have one or more of the following side effects in the area where they apply

  • Swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat
  • A red itchy skin rash
  • Wheezing or difficulty breathing
  • Feeling faint and dizzy
  • A strange metallic taste in the mouth
  • If so, you may be having an allergic reaction

In rare cases, severe allergic reactions can be caused, leading to a drop in blood pressure and even to unconsciousness. Early symptoms of a severe allergic reaction may be a skin rash or asthma. If you notice these symptoms, stop using Nystaform HC Ointment and contact your doctor immediately.

Nystaform HC Ointment also contains hydrocortisone (a steroid). Please read the Patient Information Leaflet.

All medicines cause adverse events and should not be used in certain circumstances and by certain people with certain health issues. Please see the Patient Information Leaflet within Documentation Section above.

Adverse events

If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse. This includes any possible side effects not listed in the package leaflet. Reporting suspected adverse reactions after authorisation of the medicinal product is important. It allows continued monitoring of the benefit/risk balance of the medicinal product.
