Docusol Constipation Relief 50mg/5ml Solution is a clear, almost colourless, syrupy oral liquid. It has a strawberry flavour.

It has been developed to prevent and treat chronic constipation. Prevention of hard, dry stools and reduction of straining at stools in the presence of conditions like haemorrhoids and anal fissures.

It is suitable for those over 12 years old.

Docusol Constipation Relief 50mg/5ml Solution contains Docusate Sodium 50mg in 5ml. Docusate Sodium is a laxative.

How to use Docusol Constipation Relief 50mg/5ml Solution

Adults and children aged over 12 years
The recommended dose is two 5ml spoonfuls, three times a day. The maximum daily dose is six 5ml spoonfuls (30ml). Reduce the dose as the condition improves.

Do not give Docusol Solution to children aged 12 years or under. You should feel comfortable within 1 to 2 days of treatment. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor if you end up taking Docusol Solution every day.

How to take
Swallow each dose followed y plenty of water or flavoured drink eg. milk or orange juice.

If you take more Docusol Solution than you should, you should drink lots of water and contact your nearest hospital casualty department, or tell your doctor immediately.

Children under 18 years
Docusol Constipation Relief 50mg/5ml Solution, is not suitable for children aged 6 months to 12 years but a suitable alternative, Docusol Paediatric 12.5mg/5ml Oral Solution is available. Follow your doctor’s instructions.

Warnings
Do not use laxatives for longer than 1 week unless directed by a doctor.

Ask a doctor before use if you have:

  • stomach pain
  • nausea
  • vomiting
  • noticed a sudden change in bowel habits that continues over a period of two weeks
  • your abdomen is tender to the touch or hurts when you move

 

Stop use and ask a doctor if:

  • you have rectal bleeding or fail to have a bowel movement after use of a laxative. These may indicate a serious condition
  • you accidentally take too much
  • in case of overdose, get medical helps or contact a healthcare professional immediately

 

Precautions

  • if pregnant, planning to become pregnant or breastfeeding, ask your doctor or pharmacists before use
  • if you suffer from allergies seek advice from your doctor or pharmacist before use
  • keep out of reach of children

 

Adverse events and precautions

Special warning: Do not use laxative products when abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting is present unless directed by a physician. If you have noticed a sudden change in bowel movements that persists over a period of two weeks, consult a physician before using a laxative. Do not use laxative products for longer than 1 week unless told to do so by a doctor. Rectal bleeding or failure to have a bowel movement after use of a laxative may indicate a serious condition; discontinue use and consult your physician. If you are pregnant or nursing a baby, seek the advice of a healthcare professional before using these products. In case of accidental overdose, seek professional healthcare assistance immediately. Keep out of children’s reach.

Adverse events

Reporting suspected adverse reactions after authorisation of the medicinal product is important. It allows continued monitoring of the benefit/risk balance of the medicinal product.
