Fenopron (POM)
Long established NSAID indicated for the relief of mild to moderate pain, Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Ankylosing Spondylitis. This product is a prescription only medicine.
Q) What is it?
A) Fenopron is a non-steroidal
anti-inflammatory drug available as tablets containing either 300mg or 600mg of
fenoprofen calcium.
Q) What is it used for?
A) Fenopron is used for the
treatment of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and
for the relief of mild/moderate pain.
Q) How do I use it?
A) For oral administration to adults
only, and not recommended for administration to children. Dosage: 300 to
600 mg three or four times per day. To be taken preferably with or after
food.
Q) How long should I use it for?
A) If an NSAID is
considered necessary, the lowest effective dose should be used and for the
shortest possible duration.
Q) Are there any special precautions?
A) Hypersensitivity
to the drug. Active, or a history of, peptic or intestinal ulceration. History
of upper gastrointestinal bleeding or perforation, related to previous NSAIDs
therapy. Fenoprofen should not be given to patients in whom aspirin, ibuprofen
and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs induce the symptoms of asthma,
rhinitis, or urticaria, because cross-sensitivity to these drugs occurs in a
high proportion of patients. Patients with a history of significantly impaired
renal function, severe hepatic or severe heart/cardiac failure. Use with
concomitant NSAIDs including cyclooxygenase 2 specific inhibitors. During the
last trimester of pregnancy.
Q) Are there any side effects?
A) Undesirable effects may
be minimised by using the minimum effective dose for the shortest possible
duration necessary to control symptoms. Reference to the Summary of Product
Characteristics is recommended prior to prescribing. Patients should be advised
not to drive or operate machinery if they feel drowsy.
